Behavioral Addiction Treatment
Behavioral Addiction Treatment

The Republican Center for Addiction Disorders provides services for treating individuals with behavioral addictions such as gambling addiction or problematic internet use, where a person feels that their online activities (typically checking social media, browsing, gaming, gambling, watching pornography, online shopping) have become an uncontrollable habit.

To receive treatment at the RCAD, you need a referral from your family doctor or psychiatrist. It is also possible to seek treatment anonymously without a referral, but in that case, the services are paid.

To initiate treatment, you need to register by calling the registration office of your chosen branch:

  • Vilnius branch, tel. no.: +370 5 213 7808
  • Kaunas branch, tel. no.: +370 37 33 32 55
  • Klaipėda branch, tel. no.: +370 46 41 50 25
  • Šiauliai branch, tel. no.: +370 41 45 56 44
  • Panevėžys branch, tel. no.: +370 45 58 26 73

When you arrive, you need to have:

  • An identification document with a photo.
  • Referral from your family doctor or psychiatrist, indicating that you are seeking a consultation at the Republican Center for Addiction Disorders. Unless you choose to receive paid services anonymously, a referral is not required.
  • If you have concurrent illnesses and are prescribed medications by doctors, you must have a certificate about your health condition and have the medications you are taking with you.

First, you need to register for a consultation with a psychiatrist who will determine the further treatment plan.

The RCAD provides outpatient and inpatient services.

  • Outpatient addiction treatment – a psychiatrist evaluates the severity of the addiction and collaborates with the patient to develop a supportive treatment plan. The plan includes a schedule of preventive visits for monitoring the condition and consultations on behavioral changes.

The service is provided at the branches in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, and Panevėžys.

Outpatient Minnesota Model – the treatment lasts for three months, during which the patient regularly attends group sessions and individual consultations with a doctor, psychologist, social worker, drama therapist, and, if necessary, an occupational therapist, based on their individual treatment plan. Patients learn to analyze their emotions, modify their thinking, and reinforce positive behavior. Family members are also invited to participate in psychological consultations during the treatment period.

This service is available only on a paid basis. This service is available at the Vilnius branch (Savanorių pr. 74).

Mental Health Day Centre – an outpatient addiction treatment program that lasts up to 30 days. During the day hospital program, individuals participate in group sessions and individual consultations led by a psychiatrist, social worker, psychologist, occupational therapist, and other specialists. The sessions and consultations take place every working day and last for at least 4 hours. The treatment helps stabilize the patient’s condition, explore emotions, and share them, encourages positive behavioral changes, and motivates patients to continue further treatment or prevent relapse.

The service is provided at the Vilnius branch (Savanorių pr. 74).

  • Inpatient Minnesota model – the program is based on the Twelve Step therapy and introduces patients to self-help groups. During the treatment, patients learn to analyze their emotions, modify their thinking, and reinforce positive behavior. The department follows a predetermined schedule, according to which patients attend daily group sessions led by psychologists and occupational therapists, participate in psychological groups, attend lectures by social workers, watch movies, and engage in activities related to the Twelve Step program. The treatment lasts for 28 days.

The service is provided at the branches in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipėda.
