RCAD branches in Vilnius and Panevezys provide harm reduction (low threshold) services of needle and syringe exchange, and consult clients regarding the addiction treatment.
Panevezys branch provides harm reduction services at its premises in Elektronikos str. 6. Meanwhile, for the last two decades in Vilnius these services have been provided by a mobile health clinic, visiting the areas of the city where people who inject drugs and sex workers are located.
Social workers working at the mobile clinic reach out and consult people who inject drugs and who otherwise refrain from addressing healthcare professionals. RCAD specialists advise clients on issues related to HIV and other infectious diseases, motivate them to exchange syringes and needles, provide clients with condoms and sterile injecting paraphernalia. The mobile clinic also serves as an information point regarding available medical and social help. Overdose prevention and management consultations as well as opioid antagonist naloxone are provided on Wednesdays.
During years of work, the mobile clinic has actively participated in prevention of HIV and viral Hepatitis C in Vilnius and Lithuania, over 6 000 people have been referred to treatment.
All of the mobile clinic services are provided free of charge, no personal identification document is required.
